Sadly the Democrats and liberals that blamed the soldiers for the war are the very same people that taught your children that Communism and Socialism are Americas future. Those that spit on, attacked, threw shit on, returning Vets are those that want to silence the truth, point fingers and blame others for their failures. They've got us into every war and then ran away leaving others to pick up the pieces. They're the enemy of America's past and future. We call them Democrats. Racist bigots that want to get rid of America and it's freedoms. Hang tight kiddies because the shits just starting to hit the fan.

This song feels like the theme song for this little tent city/homeless community/junkie community down by this man-made river here in sunny/shitty Southern California. Hot, dirty, hard living, the most extreme poverty, stealing and scrounging for scraps in order to obtain essentials, food and drink, and most importantly hard drugs & money with which to buy hard drugs - chiefly heroin and meth (but mostly heroin, as meth is so much more plentiful down here that it gets shared and spread around here but good - whereas heroin is much more precious as it gets used up quicker, is more expensive, and the addiction to heroin as well as the withdrawal symptoms of it is FAR more intense, more grim, and serious). People dream of getting their shit together enough to move out of there and even guys like me who dint even need to live there and have houses/apartments/etc to live in dream of not being such hopeless addicts so that we can stop going down there and feeding such an extremely negative addiction.

All of us just...gotta get out of this place. If it's the last thing we ever do
Cuz girl, there's a better life for me 'n you. Better than life in this dirty, old part of the city, where the sun refuses to shine, and people say there ain't no use in trying. Where I see girls so young and pretty, and know one thing that's true...they'll be dead before their time is due.

This thumping, intense bassline and the rising action and increasingly rapid build up/tensing up to the crescendo/great release that is the chorus makes me envision a montage of drug preparation and drug use and fighting and arguing and squabbling and laughing and smoking and chilling and scheming and criminalizing and all around shadesterness juxtapositioned with the friendliness and camaraderie, with the images cutting faster and more frantically and becoming more intense and depraved as the song builds up a faster and more frantic pace until exploding into one cathartic shot as the song explodes into catharsis when it hits the chorus. That's what I see when this plays. If I was ever to do a documentary on the community, this would be the perfect song for the intro. The place where all the key people are listed off/introduced and a series of increasingly intense shots presents the audience with a condensed expose on what life at the riverbottom is truly like, all in just 3 minutes and 12 seconds. Then afterwards get into nitty gritty detail with the actual documentary.

But I swear, it's such a great song. Especially for a documentary on that lifestyle and especially the hard drugs/fast living aspect of it; with the increasingly fast & frantic build up to the chorus, the super cathartic release of tension that is the chorus, then the sort of calm & satisfied/out-of-energy lull in the song that immediately follows the chorus...it perfectly mirrors a particularly intense orgasm...or a particularly well executed intravenous shot of heroin. Lol.

Yes, we had to get out of that place -Vietnam. I can’t say anyone spit on me coming home but many people my age were not happy with what we did over there. The troops at My Lai gave us a bad name. Most of us fought a hard and fair war. The commies were the ones committing most of the atrocities.

[Verse]
In this dirty old part of the city
Where the sun refuse to shine
People tell me there ain't no use in trying

Now my girl you're so young and pretty
And one thing I know is true
You'll be dead before your time is due
I know

[Pre-Chorus]
Watch my daddy in bed and tired
Watch his hair been turning gray
He's been working and slaving his life away
Oh yes, I know it

He's been working so hard
I've been working too babe
Every night and day
Yeah yeah yeah yeah

[Chorus]
We gotta get out of this place
If its the last thing we ever do
We gotta get out of this place
Cause girl, there's a better life
For me and you

[Verse 2]

Somehow I know it baby
